Shweta & Jay | Itasca, IL | Chicago Hindu Wedding Ceremony

    Friday, December 30th, 2011

Among my favorite Chicago weddings of 2011 was Shweta and Jay’s beautiful Hindu ceremony at the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Itasca, Illinois. I cannot express just how much I love the vibrant colors and beautiful customs of Indian weddings!! I am looking forward to posting more next year, but in the meantime, here is a sneak preview of Shweta and Jay’s gorgeous day.

I cannot get enough of Shweta’s beautiful eyes. She glowed with her jewelry and ornate saree.

After their ceremony, we spent some time at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald’s Campus once Shweta and Jay completed their outfit change.

We ended the day at the the fabulous Waterford Banquet Hall in Elmhurst. I cannot wait to share with you how dramatically the room was transformed!! All the best for a fabulous 2012!

Tosha & Chris Wedding | Hotel Frontenac | St. Louis, MO

    Friday, November 11th, 2011

A few months ago, I had a the honor of shooting Tosha & Chris’s fabulous wedding in St. Louis, MO at the Hotel Frontenac.  The best thing about these two is that they can be incredibly glam one moment, and laughingly affectionate the next. A month before their wedding, I spent some time with them at their home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for their engagement session, and got to see the many fun sides of their personalities! They truly have an incredible story, and are beautiful individuals inside and out. It was such a joy to witness the joining of their hearts and families. The entire day had a warm glow to it, and I’m excited to show off some of their fantastic wedding details.

Seriously, Tosha can you be more radiant? And Chris looks like he’s straight out a magazine!

There was not a detail missed at their romantic ceremony and their elaborate reception. Travis McBurney of True Colors Events truly outdid himself. (They are based out Seattle, Washington and work worldwide.) With a tremendous vision in mind, Travis assembled a team of incredibly creative and talented individuals to make Tosha and Chris’s fairytale wedding come true.

    The reception room was breathtaking!

Erin at Exclusive Events was the artist behind the decor, draping, lighting and dance floor. Randy at Aristry Florist designed the gorgeous florals and additional decor. Rentals were by Premier Party Rentals and linens through Connie Duglin Linens.

I am so thankful to have been invited to capture their dream come true, and I am so very happy for Chris and Tosha’s new beginning together!! I wish you both the very best!

Chicago Botanic Garden Pullman Barn Luncheon | Glencoe, IL

    Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

I adore warm autumn days, yummy food, and photographing pretty things. So naturally the preview luncheon Chicago Botanic Garden hosted to show off their fantastic new wedding venue, the Pullman Barn, was a dream. There was already quite a buzz in the air about their gorgeous new rustic space for intimate weddings, rehearsal dinners, showers, and smaller celebrations. As a big fan of the shabby chic, vintage, organic feel, especially for weddings, I knew I would love it.  So when the trolley dropped us off and I beheld the wooden chairs set out in the ceremony site and the lovely yellow wreath of flowers by Jan Channon on the barn door, I was smitten. We walked through the gate into a lush garden dedicated to the ceremony area.

Once we walked in, we were greeted with self serve lemonade and iced tea, sweet potato bisque shooters, and warm Peach-Bourbon tea.

The tables were decked in gorgeous cream flowered table runners and napkins fastened with raffia from BBJ Linens. The florals were simple, elegantly understated, and absolutely stunning. The yellow flowers seemed to bask in the golden light that streamed in through the windows.

After connecting with several new wedding professionals and taking in the decor, it was time to satisfy my appetite. Chef Jake Peck of Culinary Landscape, CBG’s exclusive caterer, created a menu that was as tasty as it was visually appealing. The buffet style meal was served on Hall’s Rental lovely vintage china.

The jalepeño cheddar cornbread muffins and BBQ spiced shrimp were phenomenal.

But the sweets were to die for. I wished I had room to eat all of them: Stone fruit with simple syrup, peach cobbler, campfire s’mores flamed to order, Mississippi mud pie (mmmm) and pumpkin cheesecake with caramel corn.

As a parting gift, Chef Jake sent us home with his homemade apple butter. I am savoring every bit of mine.

Connie Bolle and Kristina Perez of the Botanic Garden really outdid themselves with this event!  I adore Chicago’s newest rustic wedding venue and I’m looking forward to seeing the Pullman Barn in use.

For more fabulous images, be sure to check out these posts by Jeremy Lawson and CBG, as well as the lovely write-up from Beth Bernstein of SQN Events.

Remember Lesley and Matt’s winter engagement session on Landlocked Bride? Well these two tied the knot this past Saturday at Chicago’s Newberry Library! I am squealing over Fleur‘s beautiful florals and the gorgeous light we had before their ceremony!!! Nikki & Eric | Downtown Chicago, IL | Chicago Wedding Photography

    Friday, July 22nd, 2011

I may be a little biased, but I think I have the best clients in the world. No, in fact, I’m sure of it. And every once in awhile I get to meet a couple that I feel like I’ve known for years. That’s what it was like when I first met Nikki and Eric. So much so that before we had even met in person, Nikki and I were chatting like old friends on the phone. To the point where she unabashedly asked me about my dating life…and I indulged! And when I got together with the two of them, I just knew I had to shoot their wedding.

You may remember when I shared Nikki and Eric’s story from their downtown Chicago engagement session in the spring. And true to form, their wedding day was filled with much more laughter, emotion, and many tears as their loved ones celebrated with them. Here are a few of my favorites.

I loved Nikki’s Vera Wang shoes and her Enzo Angiolini sash!

We started in downtown Chicago at the Seneca Hotel before heading to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ for the ceremony and further preparations.

Huge thanks to Otto for capturing these beautiful moments before the ceremony.

One of the biggest factors in having spectacular wedding photos is planning enough time in the day to capture the entire bridal party as well as moments between the couple. To truly capture genuine emotion, it’s important to allow things to unfold naturally. While I do some coaching, the real magic happens when people’s true personalities emerge! Nikki and Eric created plenty of margin for this, and even though it had been pouring rain hours before, we ventured to Grant Park and Millennium Park for their photo shoot!

We ended with some fun quintessential Chicago photos on Michigan Avenue before heading to their reception at Spiaggia downtown.

I loved that Nikki & Eric provided flip flops for their guests so they could get their dance moves on!

And Nikki surprised Eric with the ultimate pro football groom’s cake: Green Bay Packers on one side and Wisconsin State on the other!!

Nikki’s Dad got the laughter and the waterworks going!

As did her Maid of Honor…

Nikki and Eric, thank you so very much for inviting me to document your special day. I am so very grateful our paths have crossed and I wish you many years of joy together!

Brittany and Reed | Punta Cana, Dominican Republic | Destination Wedding

    Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

The waves lapped the shore, and resort guests stopped in their tracks to stare as Brittany and Reed confessed their love to one another on the beach of sunny Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.  It was only the beginning of a wild celebration that continued through the night at a beachside restaurant with fabulous food, Dominican rum, and friends and family tearing up the dance floor.  And somehow in the midst of that, we managed to sneak away for a few photos at dusk.  I am tempted to share more than this one image…but you’ll just have to stay tuned to see just how stunning their destination wedding was. ¡Espero que lo disfruten!

Megha & Cameron | Chicago, IL | Hindu Wedding Ceremony

    Saturday, January 15th, 2011

I don’t know if it was Megha’s beauty and her sparkling laughter that first caught Cameron’s eye, or if it was her incredible balance between a fierce determination and extraordinary kindness. And it’s hard to say whether it was the way Cameron could always make her laugh or if it was his genuineness and honesty that initially drew Megha to him. But when they began studying together virtually every day, it didn’t take long for the two to realize these were only a few among the many qualities they valued in one another. They decided to move their dates beyond the library walls, and soon Megha was being schooled in the ways of beer pong while Cameron was broadening his palate to include Indian and Thai cuisine. That summer their relationship stood through the test of Cameron’s long hours at his new job. He said he’ll never forget the day Megha was helping him move out of his old apartment, and his buddy looked over at him and said, “Cameron, she’s a keeper.” He knew he had truly found a special connection in Megha. Six years later Cameron asked Megha’s father for his blessing, and that same weekend she said yes.

It only takes a few minutes with them to see how strong their adoration for one another is. Coming from two entirely different backgrounds has only served to strengthen their devotion, and it was moving to see their two families embrace one another wholeheartedly. Megha and Cameron exchanged their sacred vows in a beautiful Hindu ceremony among their family members here in Chicago. Their wedding was decked in luxurious shades of red and gold and the elaborate details I so love to photograph! It has seriously been one of my favorite weddings to date.

I’m grateful to have had Jaclyn Simpson shooting with me once again. She was a blast to work with and came away with some incredible shots like the one below.

Megha, of course, looked stunning. While she is an obvious beauty as she gazing at you directly, my favorite image of her is when I caught her off guard, all the way to the right.

Cameron looked equally as handsome and distinguished.

Megha and Cameron, thank you for inviting me to be a part of your day, and even more, into your lives. I am so thankful to know you both. Sending you much love!! xo

Jessie & Eric | Warren Woods, Michigan | 5 Year Anniversary & Vow Renewal

    Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Just five years ago on a southern plantation in Alabama, two hearts were joined in unending love under a pecan tree as Jessie and Eric exchanged vows among their friends and family.  Their lives have been a whirlwind of change since that August day, but the journey has brought them closer and made them stronger.

Jessie and Eric are so much of what I admire.  I can hardly believe I only just met them.  Already I am so grateful for their friendship and their influence in my life. They are both refreshingly witty, hilariously fun, and ceaselessly supportive.  Fellow photographers, Jessie and Eric Stevens (of Simply Jessie Photography) are such an incredible example of what a true partnership is- not only in business, but in their marriage. Their love is deeply inspiring and so very real. And their talent astounds me.  So when I heard they were planning a vow renewal ceremony in the woods of Michigan, I was both excited AND nervous to be shooting with Jaclyn Simpson to capture their special ceremony.

Mosquitoes swarmed, cicadas buzzed and the air was thick with summer’s humidity, but nothing could detract from the tender moments Jessie and Eric shared. They stood under a canopy of trees, styled by Kelly of Fleur with ribbon, lace and twine, as they renewed the vows they had spoken to one another five years ago.  “I promise to love you, honor you, comfort you…I promise to pray for you and pray with you, to live with you in an understanding way, to grant you honor…” were among some of the powerful words they read from the beautiful stationery created for them by Suzy of Lily Red Design.  Jessie’s bouquet was made with cotton (to remind them of their wedding day), thistle (from the song she walked down the aisle to), rosemary, oak leaf hydrangea, acorns and billy balls and finished delicately with twine, for that’s how Eric had proposed.  Kelly spared nothing in gorgeously crafting their arrangements to be abundant with symbolism…just one of the many reasons I ADORE her work. A few personal touches of their own- the Persian rug that was given as a wedding gift from Jessie’s parents, a basket with their wedding album and mementos from the last five years, and a ceramic jar with thoughtful sayings to one another- added even more significance to their ceremony.  And to work with Jaclyn again? I couldn’t have asked for more! Jaclyn is one of the people I most love shooting with because she is so sensitive to the dynamics of each couple, amazingly creative, and truly just so much fun to be around. She brilliantly captured the essence of their vow renewal and I was thrilled to romp around with her, Jessie, Eric and Kelly through the fields of Michigan.  As much as I love city life, there is something so rejuvenating about the countryside!  After enjoying some of the glowy evening light, Jessie and Eric continued their celebration with a small picnic- their favorite wine and beer, small sandwiches of tomato, basil and mozzarella, and decadent pecan tarts.  Suzy’s menus and a few other paper pieces beautifully accented their treats.

Jessie looked simply stunning in her slate and silver dress. A friend of hers made a custom hairpiece to suit the occasion.

And Eric was quite strapping in his rolled khakis with suspenders and a boutonniere of billy balls and cotton, courtesy of Kelly.

Jessie and Eric, thank you so very much for allowing me to be a part of your anniversary celebration.  I feel so very honored. I have nothing but love and respect for you both, and wish you many more years of love and learning!! It was a blessing to collaborate once again with Jaclyn and Kelly and to photograph Suzy’s work for the first time. We are thrilled that Eric and Jessie’s picnic and vow renewal was recently featured by Ami Price of the inspirational wedding site, Elizabeth Anne Designs. She told their story beautifully and went all out with the photos!  Also be sure to check out the phenomenal posts by the rest of the crew, including Jessie, herself!

Lori & Mike | Siesta Key, Florida | Florida Beach Destination Wedding

    Monday, October 18th, 2010

I’ve been quite fortunate this year to dip my toes in oceans all over the world this year while photographing love stories and spending time with old and new friends.  While I still have many images to share from this summer’s journeys, I couldn’t help but show a preview of Lori and Mike’s delightful Sarasota wedding.  They tied the knot just a little over a week ago on the white sands of Siesta Key beach surrounded by their closest friends and family.  Their day couldn’t have been more perfect, and I am so blessed to have been able to experience it with them.  I look forward to sharing more of their story with you, but here is a quick peek at their celebration!

Even the bluest sky was no match for Lori’s fiercely beautiful blue eyes. And Mike looked as suave as ever in his linen dress shirt and pants.

Lori and Mike spent the week following their wedding in sunny Jamaica for their honeymoon before returning to Rochester, NY. So glad to have these two in my life! Wishing much love, light and joy to you guys!!
